The antiracist activities during the post-WWII era were in a complicated situation, it reached certain success in several areas, in educations, job markets, and cultural development and so on. And yet, it was inevitably hindered by numerous backlashes from different aspects of the movements. Interestingly, people tend to ignore the activisms at that time, like Manning Marable suggests in his Race, Reform, and Rebellion, historians rarely discuss the black movement of the post-war and cold war period (Marable, 17). In this paper, I would like to discover the merits and weaknesses of the movements in 1940 to 1960, and figuring why they are being overlooked. First of all, World War II reminded Americans that they were being hypocritical that while they were fighting Fascism, racial discrimination was happening in their own backyard. Like Marable argues, â€Å"[T]he popular ideology which inspired public opposition to Hitler was rooted in an anti-racist and democratic context† (Ma rable, 13). On the large scale, 1940s was the time that race relations broke apart globally, and it certainly changed the domestic relationship in the U.S. The war literally brought everyone together, the poster showed in lecture with both black and white worker saying â€Å"United We Win† is the exact sentiment at the time. Test Different Ways Of Increasing A Person s Happiness

Fordyce performed an experiment to test different ways of increasing a person’s happiness. A few of those ways were: keeping a positive attitude, spending less time worrying, making more time for important relationships, doing the things they enjoyed, and being more outgoing. The subjects of the experiment had mostly increased in happiness after following this list. Therefore, I could increase my personal happiness if I follow this list. Something I personally struggle with is having a negative attitude. I always find the negative in a situation because, in my experience, it is more likely to be the outcome. If I changed the way I view things, from negative to positive, I would likely have an increase in happiness. Something as small as changing a few thoughts could really impact my view on many other things. A friend of mine has recently adopted this concept of writing down all the positive things in your life on little slips of paper and putting them into a jar. When she fel t herself thinking negatively, she would read the slips of paper to remind herself of the positive things she had going for her. I have often wanted to implement this in my own life as I think it is a great, consistent way to remind oneself of the positives as I could frequently revert back to and build upon it. There are many indications of the destructive behaviors caused by music.
